Is the "theory of the dead Internet" correct? Explanation of the phenomenon of Jesus the shrimp.

If you search for "Jesus the Shrimp" on Facebook, you can find dozens of images of crustaceans created by artificial intelligence (AI) mixed in various forms with a stereotypical image of Jesus Christ.

Some of these hyper-realistic images have collected more than 20,000 likes and comments. So what's going on here?

The "Dead Internet Theory" has an explanation: artificial intelligence and content created by bots have surpassed the Internet created by humans. But where did this idea come from and does it have any basis in reality?

What is the theory of a dead Internet?

The theory of dead Internet, in fact, states that activities and content on the Internet, including social media accounts, are mainly created and automated by artificial intelligence agents.

These agents can quickly create publications along with artificial intelligence-generated images designed to increase engagement (clicks, likes, comments) on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. As for the shrimp Jesus, it seems that AI realized that this is the last mixture of absurdity and religious iconography that has gone viral.

But the theory of the dead Internet goes even further. Many of the accounts using such content also seem to be managed by artificial intelligence agents. This creates a vicious circle of artificial interaction that has no clear program and no longer affects people at all.
